ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (January 17, 2013)Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa kicked off its eighth annual Winter Poker Open tournament series in record-breaking fashion, as the tournament’s $1 Million Guaranteed $560 Big Stack No Limit Hold’em event saw the largest turnout in the history of East Coast poker – a record-breaking 3,871 participants entered into the first event, generating $1,935,500 in prize money.

“Having played in tournaments throughout the world, I can honestly say that I get more excited to play at Borgata than anywhere else,” stated Ryan Eriquezzo, playing in his first tournament since winning the 2012 WSOP Bracelet. I’m not surprised by the record-setting field today, as Borgata is by far the best poker venue in the country. They have the best staff and always focus on what is in our (the players’) best interest.”

With over 3,800 players vying for the momentous prize, the record-breaking attendance shatters last September’s Borgata Poker Open number of 3,705 entries and almost doubles the $1 Million guaranteed prize pool.

The 18-day series, which began Tuesday in the Event Center, features 56 unique tournaments, including No Limit Hold’em, Mix-Max, Six-Max, Deep Stack, Seniors and Ladies No Limit Hold’em, mixed games, Seven Card Stud and Omaha events. The series culminates with the guaranteed $2 million WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship event, January 27 – February 1.

Last year, Joshua Mancuso took home the Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship event, joining Vadim Shlez (2011), Jeffrey Madsen (2010), Steven Weinstein (2009), Gavin Griffin (2008), John Hennigan (2007) and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (2006) on the distinguished list of Borgata Winter Poker Open Champions.
